Bonneville Dam Fish Counts

Best Local Trout Lakes

  • Beaver Lake -Stocked with 10,000 Rainbows from 8-12 inches
  • Cottage Lake -Stocked with 10,000 Rainbows from 8-12 inches
  • Pine Lake -Stocked with 20,000 Rainbows from 8-12 inches
  • Flowing Lake -Stocked with 10,000 Rainbows from 8-12 inches
  • Lake Goodwin - Stocked with 14,000 Rainbows from 8-12 inches
  • Lake Ki - Stocked with 15,000 Rainbows from 8-12 inches

Try trolling wedding rings with a worm or small spoons for trout in the early morning and as the sun rises is a great way to target feeding trout. As the sun rises and the fish drop lower in the lakes try, Rainbow, Forest Green and Chartreuse are the best colors of  power bait, a few drops of earthworm are garlic sent can also give you an advantage over the other anglers.

Skykomish: CLOSED TILL JUNE 1st

Snoqualmie:  CLOSED TILL JUNE 1st

Columbia: The Lower River Bellow Bonneville Dam is now closed. The dam counts where over 9,000 fish one day last week and then dropped back to around 3,000. The fishing at the wind river has been more consistante than at Drano. If you do go to Drano do not be arfaied to troll the whole lake, there has been an early morning bite on the east side between the Pillings and the mouth of the river, also try trolling Mag and Standard Fatfish in orange and chartruse.

Coast:  The rivers are all in great shape. Now is the time for a trip to the coast to target Spring Chinook, and maybe an early summer steelhead. The Sol Duc has been producing a fair amount of springers and most anglers are catching summer runs.

Saltwater:  Halibut fishing opened in the sound on the 9th of April and fishing was ok throughout the sound. The key is to cover some ground, try a downrigger with your weight bouncing on the bottom. We have had reports of fish from Mutiny Bay, and the Straights. The three best baits are Herring, Squid, and Salmon belly. Ling Cod fishing opend the 1st of May and shrimping has been opened for a week both have been great. The best bait for Ling Cod is a live sand dab, and Berkly Gulp Curl tail jigs.

Cowlitz:The Cowlitz can be great this time of year. No presure and the chance at a Springer can make now a great time to hit the cowlitz. We have received a fair amount of reports that there are already a few summer Steelhead showing up and that there is no traffic so if you are head down to springer fish on the Columbia it may not be a bad idea to pack the drift gear just in case fishing is slow. The normal deal here corky and eggs or corky and yarn with shrimp scent is a great bet. Focus on the spots that have not been hit by other boats.

Lake Sammamish and Washington: The water temp is starting to rise with the warmer weather. Cuthroat fishing has been great in the south end of both lakes. Troll slow with wedding ring and worm or Berkley power egg, flat lining a rapala a ways behind the boat can also be real prductive for larger fish. Watch for feeding birds and or jumping fish, and target those areas.  Bass fishing has also started to improve in both lakes with the first tournaments of the season, a few nicer fish have been caught focus efforts in 10 to 20 feet of water. Try a football head jig with a twin taill grub in natural colors or drop-shot rig. If you are fishing on a warmer day try using a spinner bait of crank bait for more active fish.
